12-9-16 at 1743 Estherville FD. was paged out to an electrical fire at 8 Orchard Circle. Upon arrival we found that an power strip with several Christmas lights plugged into it had over heated and started on fire. The fire was extinguished by the Estherville PD. We were on scene about 20 min. The location is owned by Bob & Barb Houseman there was no damage to anything other then the cords involved.

Just a reminder to be very careful about how many thing are being plugged into one outlet or power strip just because there is 6 plugins doesn't mean you can use them all. We were assisted by the Estherville PD.

On 10-31-16 Estherville FD was paged to a structure fire on South 8th Ave at 2:48 pm. The cause of the fire was from a wood burning heater on the outside of a shop. Firefighter where on scene for an hour and half. Little damage was done to the outside of the building. Thanks for the assistance from the Estherville PD and Emergency Management.

On 12-19-16 at 1958 Estherville F.D. was paged out to 720 N 5th Str. for a gas smell in the house. Upon arrival at 2006 we found that the gas meter outside was completely covered with snow. When we uncovered it there was a smell of gas there. Black Hills energy was call to investigate and make sure that everything was back in working order. The home is owned by the Ray Fuller family. We were on scene about an hour and was assisted by the Estherville P.D.

Then again we were paged out at 2202 to 2702 Central Ave for a fire alarm upon arrival at 2206 it was discovered that a water line had broken and cause a alarm we were on scene for about 20 mins. Also was assisted by Estherville PD.

At 2244 on 12/17/16 Estherville F.D. was paged out to 702 S 19th Str. for smoke coming out of the wall by the fireplace. Upon arrival at 2249 we found that there was fire in the wall between the plaster and the brick of the chimney. So we had to remove part of the interior wall and ceiling to get at it and extinguish it. The home is owned by Mr. & Mrs. James Moyer. There were no injuries. We were on scene about 2 hours and was assisted by Estherville P.D.

On 12/20/16 at 2005 Estherville F.D. was paged out to a gas leak at 1217 1st Ave S. Upon arrival at 2010 we found that the gas meter on the side of the house had been struck by a vehicle and broke the pipe going into the house. We shut the gas off and ventilated the home. Black Hills Energy was called in to repair the break. The home is owned by Maria Alvarado. We were assisted by Estherville P.D. and Emmet Co. Sherriff Dept. We were on scene for about a half hour.

On 12/26/16 at 2009 Estherville F.D. was paged out to 515 N. 2nd Street for a chimney fire. Upon arrival at 2017 the fire had died down some as the occupant had shut the damper. The fire personal proceeded to empty the fire place and extinguish the fire in the chimney. The home is owed and occupied Lee Anderson. There were no injuries and we were on scene for about 45 min. E.F.D. was assisted by Estherville P.D.

On 12/11/16 at 1808 Estherville F.D. was paged out to a structure fire at 17 2nd Ave S. in Estherville. Upon arrival at 1813 we found the garage fully involved in fire. We extinguished the fire and checked out surrounding structures for any possible extension. The location is owned and occupied by Allen Snyder. There were no injuries but the garage was a total lose. The cause is undetermined at this time. We were on scene for about 90 mins and was assisted by Estherville P.D.
